Many of you who have visited us will have noticed that we often have breeding program's of various species.
For 2012 we are concentrating on our Morelia, Dwarf Retic and Stimson projects for more info on these visit

Chris's website dedicated to his personal captive breeding successes, Morelia, Python & Antresia.
Our other projects below, we have put on hold for this year, or have sold on to make space for current projects. We have kept these up to show the vast range of captive breeding programs that we have worked with and will continue to expand into more projects in future years.

We have long prided ourselves on the captive propagation of Monitors. We are currently concentrating on the odatria species (dwarfs) mainly we have found these to be the most suited to captivity due to there small size. Below are the species we are working with
These are the most commonly kept and bred of all the dwarfs reaching only 12inch on average and being super outgoing we can see why. We currently keep and breed both subspecies, Coined Red and Yellows although this can be misleading many people thinking they have the rarer Red form when they don’t we have some of the best looking Reds and Yellows sourced from the USA and Europe. We believe we have the largest group of reds currently in the UK. We breed these each year and babies of both species always sell out quick. Take a look below at our breeding groups:
(Varanus a. acanthurus)

(Varanus a.brachyurus)

we are currently breeding include:
(Varanus kingorum)
Below you can see our newest additions these being leucistic Kings Rock Monitors normal kings are still rare in collections so we were more than happy when we managed to source a young pair of lucys coming from top German bloodline they have already settled in well loving the hot temps and stacks found in our breeding cages these guys are renowned for there high reproductive levels and we expect eggs very soon.
(Varanus caudolineatus)
Some more of our newest additions are our stripe tailed monitors these guys are restricted to Western Australia where it is found underneath the bark of a mulgar trees, these are very closely related to the gilleni and share the similar behaviour the main difference being that caudos are spotted and do not grow as large we hope to get our caudos breeding as well as are gilleni very soon enjoy the pics below.

(Varanus gilleni)
These are our favourites growing to only 8inch what they loose in size they make up for in personally these are a real joy to keep found in central Australia these arboreal Monitors inhabit the mulgar trees that give them there name searching out various insects and have a great appetite for gecko tails. Always active we hope that this rare dwarf becomes more available in the coming years below you can see are adults

(Varanus glauerti)
These in our opinion are the most beautiful of all the dwarfs and maybe lizards as a whole. These guys have everything going for them. Great personalities, beautiful colours and again great adult size. These rock dwellers occur in Western Australia in the Kimberly and Kakadu region, they have long necks that they can get into the many crevices they inhabit. We cannot big these guys up enough we will let the pics do the talking.
(Varanus prasinus)
We are currently working with the green tree monitor a truly stunning species that is completely adapted to living in the trees. With the many farmed animals being imported not suiting to a captive environment we have a passion to breed these and get some captive bred babies that will suite far better. We are lucky to have a very good breeding stock.

These are a super rare form of the normal prasinus, occurring in Meruke we believe the may be moved into a separate species in the future.
Meruke’s do get as large as the normal prasinus, the green is a lime green and the patterning is completely different with no bands like the normal prasinus.

we have aims to breed in the future include:
Varanus brevicauda
Varanus pilbarensis

Kayaudi Super Dwarf Retic’s are our hottest new project, these have now been proven to be a true dwarf variant. Females only growing to 9 foot and many breeding at a much smaller size. Recently the retic colour morph market has expanded to a variety of beautiful morphs including albinos of various types sunglows, fires and titanium’s to name a few. The drawback of these normal retic’s is the sheer size they grow, often up and over 20 ft.
Here at rainforest reptiles we have started our own “Super Dwarf” morph breeding program this is a real winner, the beauty of the retic and the various morphs, but in a smaller package perfect!!
We are currently working to produce “super dwarf” tigers, super tigers and albino tigers.
We currently have a large collection of Morelia Pythons we are breeding them both in their pure form and our work with Marc Mense has allowed us to get hold of the newest Morelia morphs around. Here are the species we are working with
(Morelia spilota mcdowelli)

(Morelia spilota spilota)
We currently have young Gosford locale Diamonds these are noted as having the best colouration of the Diamond Python locales. We hope to breed these in the next couple of years

(Morelia spilota mcdowelli)
We our currently working with a number of different projects with the regular jag morph including a very special out breeding project that we hope to be the key to getting the Lucy jags to survive if this is successful it will be a major leap forward in the carpet morph world the jag carpet projects are the most exciting in our opinion of all morph breeding with the chance of just about anyone breeding different combos to produce something new.

(Morelia bredli)
We have sourced the reddest types available and in our collection have a possible hypo individual

This is our newest addition, coming from the first breeder of Jaguar Carpets, Jan Eric of the Jaguar Breeding Centre. Red Hypos are renowned for being the best example of the pure Jaguar.
The black is highly reduced and the yellow vibrant. Being 100% Morelia spilota mcdowelli our female measures well over 8 ft and has produced clutches of 30 eggs in the past. We aim to breed her this year with our stunning regular Jag and produce some awesome looking pure Jags see pics of her below.

We have a young female from the Jaguar Breeding Centre line, we cannot wait until she is old enough to breed. The Eed Hypo has the ability to produce a wide array of morphs including the beautiful Mandarin Jag Hypos, Super Red Hypos when line bred (see marc mense page for full details). You can really see the difference between the Red Hypos and normal Jags they really are red when born some develop almost white until full colour change at three years, when they have the brightest yellow with faint black tipping a truly stunning snake.

Our female is a real stunner we will be breeding her this year to a Jag we cannot wait to see the results if the parents are anything to go by these will be awesome

(poss super)
Our Caramel Carpet “Twix” was the result of breeding Caramel to Caramel she has very little black. We hope she may be a super. Being a pure Coastal Co-dom gene the Caramel is as exciting as the Jaguar, the possibilities are endless they have already been crossed to make Caramel Jags and the possibility of breeding to the Albinos may produce a sunglow looking carpet we are really excited about our future Carmel projects

(Morelia viridis)
Our adults are from the Manokwari and Wamena locales

We are currently working with both subspecies of the Stimpsons Python and believe we maybe the only people in the UK doing so. These super rare dwarf pythons are great and we cannot wait to get some babies out. Our adults took some sourcing but in doing so we will be able to offer true examples of both subspecies.
(Antresia stimpsoni orientalis)

(Antaresia s stimpsoni)
Our westerns are from the Pilbara locale noted for having brighter coloration

(Antaresia maculosa)
Another Antaresia species we are working with are Spotted Pythons, these are a stunning underrated python, growing to only 4ft. We have several adult pairs and should have our first hatchlings this year.

We are also working with 100% het Granite Spotted Pythons, these we produced from 2 granite parents. Granite is a recessive gene the founder stock are believed to be from Papua as no granites have been found in mainland Australia. This is an interesting project for this group and we look forward to producing Granite Spotted’s very soon.

We are also working with Cape York Spotted Pythons these are found at the tip of the Cape York peninsula in northern Queensland noted for having high contrast and a lighter pattern they are very sought after amongst Spotted Python enthusiasts.

(Leiopython albertisi)
These have to be one of the most beautiful snakes in the world ours are the golden form although this species has received bad press of temperament in the past we have found our cb adults to be very calm and can be handled once out of the vivarium.

(Antaresia childreni)
Children’s Pythons are one of the worlds smallest pythons reaching an average of 3ft. They also have a great personality making them a great snake for children hence the name. We are working with pure children’s which have become rare in recent times often being crossed with Spotted Pythons these are an easy species to breed see our livestock pages for availability.

(Pogona vitticeps)
We have a number of different beaded dragon projects that have always been successful for us we always have at least a few different morphs for sale at all times from our own captive breeding the advancement of new morphs has been vast in beardys which can only be a good thing super popular with young and old you can be assured that we will be keeping up with any advancement but will always be breeding the good old normal phase too.

We will be adding to this page periodically with any successes or unusual animals we have hatched so check back often for the latest news on our breeding program's.
